With an impressive two-decade long career at UW Rowing, Michael Callahan, knows the value of a synergistic team.

Michael has been a part of UW Rowing since 1996, when he was a student-athlete and the captain and commodore of the 1996 men’s team. Since then, he has become a prominent and steadfast figure in the rowing community. Not only has Michael lead the men’s rowing team to victory numerous times over the past 18 years as head coach, but his holistic approach to coaching allows his rowers to flourish academically, socially, and more.

While Michael is dedicated to the UW Rowing team, he has also coached many teams to success in world-class competitions from England to Amsterdam and more. His stories of success and his reputation for team building follow.

Michael knows the importance of raising up those around him and understands that coaching extends beyond the men that are rowing the boat. This is reflected in the importance he places on developing the talent of the coaches around him and has resulted in Michael seeing many of his intern coaches go on to have successful careers.

Michael’s mentorship and influence have not gone unnoticed. Not only has he been named Coach of the Year 12 times, but he’s also been named one of Seattle’s Most Influential People according to the Seattle Magazine in 2015, and US Rowing’s Man of the Year (2013).

“A good coach cares about you, helps you navigate rough waters, and works tirelessly to make your dreams a reality,” said Michael.

Michael’s passion for helping his rowers be the best they can be truly resonates with what we do here at Kitsap Credit Union. We know that much like Michael shows, if we work together, with a bit of coaching and dedication, your goals are within reach. Together it’s possible.
