Kitsap Credit Union hosted a luncheon to recognize our local food banks at the Kitsap Conference Center on November 7, 2019. We were excited to honor our local unsung heroes by showcasing their tireless work in our communities and awarded each organization with a monetary donation.
“At Kitsap Credit Union, we understand that there are families in our community that face hunger and food insecurity every day,” states Shawn Gilfedder, President and CEO of Kitsap Credit Union. “Our local food banks work tirelessly to provide a safety net for our community, ensuring that no one has to go hungry. We are excited for the opportunity to show our gratitude to the remarkable people that have dedicated their lives’ work to battle against hunger.”
Hunger is a heartbreaking reality facing many families in our community. According to the United Way of Kitsap County, 30% of our neighbors are food insecure, meaning they’re unsure how they will feed their families day after day. Local food banks are on the front line battling in the fight against hunger every day. These selfless heroes have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of the men, women, and children in our community who are impacted by hunger, and we’re proud to contribute to their mission.
We invited representatives from 13 local food banks from Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, and Pierce Counties. Each representative was recognized for their outstanding work and awarded with a $4,000 donation for their organization. Guest speaker, Jasmine Bridges, Corporate Engagement Officer from Northwest Harvest, shared an inspirational message to encourage attendees.
